I've been asked to write a few words on my experience at the "Handy Dog trial" Sept. 5th, novice day. Handy Dog was only my second trial in Pro Novice, and I’ll admit - I was extremely nervous at first. To my surprise, and relief, I quickly realized I wasn't alone. My fellow handlers were wonderfully supportive, openly sharing their knowledge and offering encouragement which helped me to relax.
What struck me most was the camaraderie: even though it was a competition, everyone genuinely cheered one another on. The experienced handlers were more than willing to share tips and explain techniques to those of us with less experience and wished us success. Thanks to the hard work and thoughtful organization of Viki Kidd and Victoria Lamont, the trial had a positive atmosphere which promoted a sense of friendship, collaboration and even a little fun.
